Ralph Waldo Emerson quoted the phrase “The never-ending task of self improvement“. This can be applied to all aspects of life. As a photographer I recognize the value in that concept, that self improvement is not merely something one should do for a set amount of time. As photographers, we should always be looking for ways to improve ourselves and our craft. To that end, I am always looking for new and different ways to improve my photography. For me, it could be watching an Audrey Hepburn movie to see the classic lighting and poses… looking at fine art from masters such as Rembrandt, following world famous photographers online, or attending workshops by leaders in the field.
This past weekend I was able to attend an intimate lighting seminar given by Jason Groupp. Following that, I joined fellow New York photographers at a shoot in the city, getting some time learning with Neil van Niekerk. The day was a success, from the lighting work done with Jason to the sharing of techniques from peers following that, and the making of some new friends. To cap off the night, Jason Groupp gave a class in Fusion which was excellent. Here are some of my shots from the day, starting with the indoor lighting seminar.
“Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” -Winston Churchill

What a great way to start out the new year… shooting Liam and Kristina’s wedding out on Long Island with a friend. I was helping out Okello Dunkley of www.dslrcameraworkshops.com shooting some pictures and video. Okello teaches a class on the basics of photography, and I do believe he’s adding an advanced class and a wedding class as well. Some of the footage shot will be used to help out in his presentations. If you want to learn how to shoot in manual mode on your dslr, you should definitely check out his class.
Liam and Kristina are a fun couple and they were willing to go out and brave the cold to take advantage of the scenery and to get some great shots. Here is their highlights video (included in every video package)… as you can see, it was a great wedding. Visit Small Moments Studios on facebook to see some of the still shots. And thanks Liam and Kristina for helping Small Moments Studios start off the year right!
Here’s the highlights teaser from Liam and Kristina’s wedding. A highlights edit is included with every video package from Small Moments Studios. This was shot exclusively on the Canon 5dmII (converted to 24p).
2010 is bringing the launch and redefinition of some of our products. We’ve redefined our music video slideshow offering you Rock Star and in Legacy we’ve expanded our album and print options. Additionally, we now offer Spotlight, Instant Access and Finale. Spotlight is our photobooth, Instant Access is our same-day slideshow display during your reception (with a Finao album of highlight pictures to take home that night!) and Finale is our trash the dress session. More on each of these new products to follow… stay tuned! It’s gonna be an exciting year!
Okay, so 2009 was a great year and the final wedding of the year was perfect in every way. Atenas was beautiful and Beto was quite dashing and they made a perfect couple standing there during the ceremony. Once the ceremony was over, the dancing started, slow at first, but it quickly built up into some really great moves out on the dance floor. We got our Spotlight photobooth up and running and that really let everyone have a good time getting their pictures taken. I’ll post separately on our Spotlight photobooth.
Some memorable moments… a Mexican tradition where the men all try to knock the bride out of a chair and the women do the same for the groom… touching speeches… all the Spotlight photobooth fun… the groomsmen throwing Beto up into the air and having him hit the mirrored ceiling (which thank god did not break)… oh and Atenas’ singing at the end of the night! Here’s our Rock Star video slideshow from the wedding, including video clips to make it oh-so sweet and to showcase the awesome dancing. Congratulations Atenas and Beto! You helped us close out the year on a high note! Check out the video and some highlight pictures below!
Welcome All. It’s a brand new year and this is the first posting on our brand new Small Moments Studios Blog. I’ll be here blogging about some of the weddings we do, any interesting wedding stories, etc. I’ll be tossing up some teaser pictures and videos from weddings, and to start, here are some highlights from 2009. I’ll probably put up one of our Rock Star video slideshows from 2009 as well.
