We had our first wedding of the season, which will be up shortly on the blog… and we had Steve with us joining Keith in shooting video.  This year we’re taking things to a new level, and our second shooters, Nick and Steve are a big part of making that happen.  When it comes to video, Keith’s work is great, but having another video shooter offers us the ability to be all that more creative with our work… we are taking our video to a more cinematic level.  Both Steve and Nick bring a new perspective in what they do, while still shooting in a complimentary style to the way Keith and I both shoot.  We work well together as a team, and in the end, you’ll see the benefit in the work we can produce.  If you don’t have a second shooter for either photo or video in your contract, give us a call!  We’ll be running discounts on adding this to your package!

So you’ve met Nick before… and here is Steve…

And, of course… don’t worry… Keith and I are still around!

Ok… now back to editing.

Be well,

-Ryan.

Jen & Joe’s First Dance: Brides NY Magazine (New York Wedding Photography / Videography)

Filed under Video • Written by Ryan @ 2:14 pm

Jen and Joe’s first dance was definitely one that stands out… they started slow and sweet and ended with awesomeness. Brides NY magazine is doing an article on first dances and they’re using Jen and Joe’s story… and images, of course, by Small Moments Studios. We’re excited to have our images shown, and Jen is DEFINITELY excited as well. I thought rather than just to focus on the photography of the first dance, I’d do a post here that shows a good portion of the dance… because though the images are great, sometimes video is truly needed to capture a moment. Here is Jen and Joe’s teaser video… and check out the 2011 Spring/Summer edition of Brides NY magazine (on stands sometime in February) to see more about this dance and more of our work.

Thanks!  Be well,

-Ryan.

Amanda & Jay: Engagement Session (West Point, Thayer Wedding Photography)

Filed under Engagement • Written by Ryan @ 7:17 am

After the holiday break, it was great to have two engagement shoots in one day… after shooting a great session in Jersey, I headed over to Amanda and Jay’s place.  Our original plan was to get a couple of pictures of their dogs and then head over to Bear Mountain… but they had limited time and instead of rushing to try to get to another location, we just went into town.  I’m always fairly certain that we can great shots wherever we go, as proved by this session.  One big reason you need to trust your photographer is that you never know what they see… for all of these pictures, there were cars and streets and not-so-pretty stores all around us… it’s my job to put us in the best lighting and to frame the shot the way I want.  And so walking through town spending some time together, we got some great images… Amanda and Jay are a great couple to work with and I’m looking forward to their August wedding at The Thayer!  I’m glad they decided they wanted a snow engagement session to balance out the summer wedding images we’ll be getting.  Enjoy!

Be well,

-Ryan.

Vanessa & Andrew: New Jersey Engagement Session (Bear Mountain Wedding Photography)

Back to shooting!  During the holidays, I’d been doing a ton of editing, but it had been a couple of weeks without me shooting a wedding or engagement session or something.  And so I was happy when the snow came down, because I knew someone would want a winter wonderland shoot.  Vanessa and Andrew are getting married this March and the white landscape with the great weather we had this past weekend was the perfect opportunity for an engagement session.  We started out their engagement session at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, which has beautiful rooms throughout… of course, we were there more for sentimental reasons, as Andrew proposed to Vanessa there.  After getting some inside shots, we decided to brave the cold and snow, and Vanessa and Andrew took me to various locations… The Hermitage… a church with cool red doors, and then a bird sanctuary.  We were trudging through the snow at points… I wasn’t about to complain though, since Vanessa was doing it in high heeled boots.  The pictures below highlight some of the images we captured that day… enjoy!

Be well.

Happy New Year! New York Wedding Photography by Small Moments Studios

Filed under Random • Written by Ryan @ 1:28 pm

Goodbye 2010! This past year has brought many great opportunities to Small Moments Studios.  For one, we were hired to shoot a wedding for an episode of David Tutera’s “My Fair Wedding” (for those of you who watch the show, it was the Swamp Bride episode.)  Keith and I can be spotted throughout the episode.  We also had a lot of fun shooting the cover of Boating on the Hudson magazine!  Inside the magazine featured a two page spread including images we captured for Tara and Paul’s wedding on the Hudson.  And as for our video, we were honored by TheKnot.com as they featured our work on their site.  They searched through videos from all over the country and our video was selected as top ten for Great Current Video Trends.

Thanks so much to all of our brides from 2010.  We had a great time working with all of you, and you all made it such an awesome year for us here at Small Moments Studios.  We had the pleasure of working with 35 brides and grooms this past year and I love looking through every one of their blog posts and ROCK STAR videos.

Welcome 2011! Our 2011 is already looking great… announcements are being made in a week or so for “Best Pick for 2011″ from TheKnot.com and we are being interviewed by Brides.com and Brides Magazine for a feature on one of our NYC Central Park engagement sessions.  Okello Dunkley of DSLR Workshops has asked me to join him on his “Canon vs. Nikon” project.  The Canon versus Nikon website will be up and running shortly, featuring a podcast and photography advice from Okello and I.  Looking forward to 2011 weddings, we’ve already got 25 weddings booked and we’re looking to work with more couples this year than any other year.  In addition, we’ve got great plans for taking our work to an even higher level this year.  We’ve got a lot to look forward to, because if the engagement sessions that we’ve already shot for 2011 brides are any indication, it will be a fun and exciting year.

One of the things that has become apparent to me in this past year is that I am blessed in my life.  I have a beautiful wife and amazing kids.  I do work hard at what I do, but when my wife watches me edit, she always sees me smiling… when she asks why I’m smiling, my answer is always about something funny a couple said, or some crazy thing that went on at the wedding, or how I’m just happy for a couple.  And so I’ve realized that there’s always something for me to smile about in what I do.  So thanks so much for entrusting us with your memories… and thanks everyone, for all the smiles… past, present and future.

Be well.

-Ryan.

note: I’m ending here with one of my favorite images from the last engagement session of 2010 which also happens to be the first wedding of 2011, coming up at the end of the month.  See you soon Natalia and Jonathan!

Andrea and Shane’s ROCK STAR slideshow… check out all of the awesomeness.  As you can tell from the original blog post from their wedding, we had a great time.  This was the last wedding of the year and everyone had a great time… check out this ROCK STAR slideshow from Small Moments Studios… main photos from me, of course, with great second shooting from Steve Kang and, as usual, Keith was rockin’ the video.  We even included some of the rehearsal dinner… enjoy!

Be well.
